I think that Barkhausen might be about my favorite location to shoot in Green Bay…especially at sunset. We had a ton of laughs with both our families hanging out till the sun went down…chasing geese and great light. P.S. Don’t recommend chasing geese when they are with their babies–Riley learned this the hard way! Good times. These two are an awesome couple and Tameca’s daughter Naya couldn’t be sweeter.

WOW! Loved, loved being part of Courtney and Matt’s wedding day. What an amazing couple and awesome group of family and friends. The day was breathtakingly beautiful from start to finish. There were familiar faces all around which always makes things even more fun for us including the amazing Maureen and Mike. It is always a great wedding when you are sad when the night comes to an end. Courtney said at one point “Don’t tell me what time it is, I don’t want it to be over.” These two have so much love for each other and their families, and it was a perfect day to celebrate that love.

I also have to give a shout out to some of the fantastic people that helped with the wedding day. Sharon from Face First Makeup did a fabulous job!! The ladies were gorgeous. Alliey from Sash and Bow and Jerad and Josh from Buds n’ Bloom rocked it out with the decor. Also, Courtney’s mom is super talented and creative. The details were amazing with even some Cinco de Mayo fun! The Michael Walters Orchestra was incredible and was just what the party ordered.

Jessica and Ben

We loved being part of the wedding day of this amazing and special couple. I think I have known Jessica since she was a baby, and it was amazing to see her find an incredible guy and grow into the woman she is. It was fun not just getting to do the pictures, but helping with some of the planning and decorating. It is not often that we take part in that end of things so it was so much FUN! Love and much happiness to you both!

It was a privilege to capture Olivia’s senior pictures the other day. Just last year, we were shooting her older sister Claire’s pics. We had a blast around Green Bay, and the weather was very kind to us. Thank you Michelle for opening up your home and your beautiful piano. Liv, I hope you like these as much as I do. Olivia is a a fantastic artist. Loved seeing some of her sketches.

For our second wedding of 2012, we headed up to Pembine. It was a wonderfully relaxed St. Patty’s day, full of lots of green and yummy roasted pig. I’m not going to ramble on about it…I’ll just show you. The ring bearer playing a little pre-ceremony soccer.Did I mention there was a lot of green?interesting fact about these two–they wear the exact same size shoe! No snow in Pembine in March…craziness.Super impressed with Nikki…she made her own bouquet.Jean is a good friend of the family. Sarah and Lee

Who would have thought that we could have such an awesome spring shoot in March! This was my first official shoot this year, since I’ve been laid up with my accident. I’m doing great by the way. So we started out at Pamperin Park and worked our way to Sarah’s parents house. Sarah’s mom had brunch waiting on us when we got to her house…amazing brunch. Thank you Kathy! Since they live on a protected watershed, we walked the trails and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Rufus, Sarah’s dog, also came along to keep Riley company. It’s a shoot like this that makes me excited about the whole upcoming season.

At any given wedding there are thousands of details that could catch the bride’s eye; but she is so busy, she misses most of what makes her wedding unique. It is the details, the small things, that I love to bring out in my photography. So, here I will expound on two things that make this process possible for MHP.

We started renting some of our lenses three seasons ago. One of the huge advantages of renting is the ability to try things without being saddled with them permanently. So, when Canon released a new version of their 100mm 2.8 macro lens, I had to try it. And, as with all our requests to Brian at Rentglass, he said it would be on our doorstop asap.

So, what is a macro lens? The bottom line is that you can get in close and shoot sharp details the naked eye can barely see. The facets of a diamond, or the moss bed in a forest, all these cool details come into reach with this lens; and the new 100 macro makes it fun. The Canon EF 100 2.8 L Macro is a fairly new replacement for Canon’s original 100 USM macro that’s hung around a little too long. It was slow focusing, not super sharp, and never really found a home among professionals. This newer version has a great dampened focusing ring, hybrid image stabilization, and optics that make up one of the sharpest lenses available. The little red ring on barrel means it’s an “L” lens, and that Canon has used their best components for professional use. I constantly pound and abuse my lenses through the fast paced environment of wedding photography, and this is a great reasons to rent. If you break it, you ship it in and get a new one.

This past summer I was shooting a wedding, and I dropped this lens off a bridge over water. It instantly disappeared into the muck. I came back a day later and retrieved the soaked lens, and because it was a rental Brian sent me a brand new one…no questions asked. Wonderful peace of mind.

What can renting this lens do for you? First, it is the one of the sharpest lenses in Canon’s entire lineup. Second, It will allow you to capture details that are out of reach for most lenses out there. Third, the 100 macro makes an incredible motion lens if your shooting video with your camera. No, it is not cheap, but renting on a weekly or monthly basis makes the math a little easier. Also, the versatility added to your images makes you stand out from the mob of photographers that is our world today.

I’m not being paid by Rentglass or Canon, but I love the things that make me better at what I do.

From the age of 11 until graduating from college, the town of Pembine was my home base. It was the place I grew up and where Mark and I met. One of our first dates was out at the Four Seasons Club so it is always incredibly fun for me to go home and shoot a wedding especially one with a ceremony at my home church and a reception at the Four Seasons. We will actually be back up that way again for another wedding in just a few weeks. Since Mark did not get his pin out until Tuesday and was still basically operating one-handed at the time of the wedding, I had the wonderful privilege of having the fabulous Beth from Photos by Beth Ann come along and help me out. We had an awesome time working together. We are so incredibly happy for Jill and Scott as they begin their lives as a married couple. Here is a peak at the day. ~Kelly

Possibly one of my favorites. I love the way Scott looks at Jill. My other favorite. How can you not love this face! Scott’s dad is hilarious.

Emily and Jordan

It was an incredibly gorgeous winter day to do an engagement shoot. I am really loving winter engagement shoots especially with a winter like this one. Emily and Jordan came up from Milwaukee for a couple of days and we met out at the Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve which is absolutely gorgeous this time of year. On the list to do is to take the kids out there next! We had such a great time taking in the scenery and getting to know each other better. These two are so incredibly comfortable interacting in front of the camera that all I had to do was step back and capture it all. Can’t wait to shoot their fabulous fall wedding in October. It is going to be gorgeous! Enjoy~ Kelly
